Fund for the Future
Allan Rodgers’ legal work has touched countless people and has impacted many different areas of poverty law. To honor
his nearly half-century of advocacy on behalf of low-income, vulnerable and disadvantaged populations, and to recognize his unwavering commitment to social justice, MLRI’s Board of Trustees has established a fund in his name.
Donations to the Allan Rodgers Fund for the Future will be
used to promote systemic advocacy initiatives and activities
that benefit low-income individuals and families and improve
the delivery of civil legal aid to those most in need. Income
and principal from the Fund will be used to support projects
and work in furtherance of this mission. The Fund will be administered by MLRI’s Board of Trustees.
About Allan Rodgers
After a remarkable and distinguished 41-year career as the Executive Director of Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI), Allan Rodgers retires on December 31, 2010. Since 1969, Allan has guided MLRI, establishing it as one of the premier legal services advocacy and support centers in the country.
Allan’s accomplishments are countless. He helped draft the
state's Chapter 40B zoning law, which has created over 58,000 units of affordable housing. He was instrumental in the passage
of the Massachusetts Abuse Prevention Act, which has helped more than 40,000 abused women and children each year secure restraining orders. He has filed or co-counseled numerous class action lawsuits challenging harmful rules and policies affecting public benefits,unemployment insurance, child support collection and custody, and has championed numerous court reform efforts to ensure that our justice system remains fair and accessible for thousands of low-income individuals.
