MLRI Will Honor Mintz’s Brent Henry with Catalyst for Change Award
Organization to recognize Henry in April 2022 for his work on behalf of vulnerable communities
Boston, Mass. (November 4, 2021) – The Massachusetts Law Reform Institute (MLRI) will honor Brent Henry, a leading health care attorney at Mintz, as the latest recipient of the organization’s prestigious Catalyst for Change Award. MLRI is a nonprofit poverty law and policy center that advocates to advance policies and practices that secure economic, racial, and social justice for low-income communities. Henry will be honored for his work promoting diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, advocating for more funding for legal aid programs, and supporting health and housing equity at an event on April 28, 2022.
“Now more than ever, MLRI’s mission to fight for policies that benefit low-income people in Massachusetts and that advance racial equity justice is important to the future of our Commonwealth and our nation,” said MLRI’s Executive Director, Georgia Katsoulomitis. “Brent Henry knows what it is like to stand in the trenches to help those in need of support and to address both economic and racial injustice. His career is defined by promoting equity and inclusion, from the legal profession to health care to housing. We are honored to celebrate his work.”
Brent Henry is a leading health care attorney at the Mintz law firm who brings more than 30 years of industry experience to his work advising clients on complex business, legal, and regulatory issues.
Prior to joining Mintz, Brent was Vice President and General Counsel of Partners HealthCare (now known as MassGeneral Brigham), the largest comprehensive health care system in New England. In that capacity, he oversaw the legal, internal audit, corporate compliance, and business ethics departments for the organization.
Previously, he was Vice President and General Counsel of MedStar Health, a hospital system serving the Baltimore/Washington corridor. In addition, he has served as Deputy Administrator of the New York City Human Resources Administration, where he directed the NYC Medicaid program, and as Director of Business and Governmental Affairs for the Greater Southeast Health Care System in Washington, DC.
An alumnus of both Princeton University, where he received his BA, and Yale University, where he received both a Masters degree and his JD, Brent has also taught health care law at Howard University and the University of Maryland. In addition, he has served as the Vice Chair of the Princeton University Board of Trustees and a member of the Executive Committee of the Yale Law School Association. In 2019, he was recognized as a Health Care Trailblazer by the National Law Journal, one of many honors he has received over the last several years.
Since his arrival in Boston 20 years ago, Brent has become involved in a broad range of community and professional service activities, including the Boston Bar Association (where he was the inaugural chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Section), and serving on the boards of DotWell Health, The Partnership, the New England Legal Foundation, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New England Council, and the Massachusetts Equal Justice Fund.
MLRI will issue the Catalyst for Change Award at an event to be held on April 28, 2022. Proceeds from the 2022 Catalyst for Change event will benefit MLRI’s Racial Justice & Equity Project, which undertakes advocacy, in collaboration with community partners, to address and dismantle systemic racial disparities and racialized policies and practices that disadvantage the Commonwealth’s communities of color. Founded in 1968 as a statewide poverty and law policy enforcement center, MLRI works together with its advocacy and community partners, in order to advance laws, policies, and practices that benefit people living in poverty in Massachusetts. The organization has given out the Catalyst for Change Award for six years to honor those in the community who work to make a positive impact on the people of Massachusetts. The Catalyst for Change event was postponed in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. More information on the Catalyst for Change event can be found at MLRI’s website.
