Melanie Chaput has specialized in immigration law for over two decades, with a focus on immigrant and refugee rights. After graduating from Canisius College in 1994, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she began her career with the International Human Rights Law Group. This experience sparked her passion for working with immigrants and refugees. While attending Rutgers School of Law, she served as the Organizer for Immigrant Household Workers in New York City and published a *Guide to Employing Household Workers*. Upon earning her J.D. in 1999, Attorney Chaput joined the International Institute of New Hampshire, where she created the state’s first free legal program for immigrant victims of domestic violence. In 2003, she joined Bailinson, Capuchino & Leary, P.C., representing clients in immigration, family law, and civil matters.   Attorney Chaput appeared on the popular TV show *Forensic Files* (Season 19, Episode 14, "Sunday's Wake"), covering the tragic case of a refugee child’s death due to lead poisoning.  In 2007, she opened her own solo-practice focusing on humanitarian immigration cases, domestic violence, and family law.  Attorney Chaput is also an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University, where she teaches legal philosophy, judicial administration, and other classes in the Criminal Justice Department.
