Racial Justice

Everyone deserves a fair and equal opportunity for prosperity, stability, safety and dignity.

Yet race and ethnicity remains a strong predictor of outcomes. Laws, policies, and practices rooted in discrimination and bias have created conditions of inequality. Understanding and addressing issues of race, implicit and explicit bias, and developing an agenda to affirmatively advance racial equity across all of our substantive areas of advocacy is critical to ensure economic and social justice for all.

Our racial justice advocacy focuses on:

Exposing the racism and bias embedded within public systems, policies and practices.
Highlighting how racism manifests unfair treatment and inequitable access to opportunities, resources and power along racial lines.
Improving and/or dismantling systems that create or reinforce racial disparities, oppress and deny opportunities, and perpetuate conditions of poverty.
Working collaboratively with legal services and community based organizations to identify tangible steps necessary to advance a racially conscious social justice agenda and to build capacity to do racial justice work.
Engaging in statewide and national coalitions and working groups to advance racial justice.
